5 Magical Professions of Ipang Wahid

There have been more than 500 TV advertisements directed by Ipang Wahid, or in full Irfan Asy'ari Sudirman Wahid. Some of them have won various awards both at home and abroad.

Currently, he is part of various social organizations. Starting from the Chair of the KEIN Creative Industries Working Group, to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). After completing his undergraduate education at the Jakarta Arts Institute, Ipang continued his education at The Art Institute of Seattle, United States, majoring in Music and Video Business . In Ipang's interview with the KARENA.ID team, Ipang revealed the 5 magical professions he had worked in in the country's creative industry.

Doing City Transportation Business to the Closet

Who would have thought, Ipang Wahid once submitted a proposal to his parents for 1.5 million rupiah to run a city transportation business which would earn him an income of Rp. 22,000 a day.

Because it didn't make a profit, Ipang then switched to the wardrobe business. Deliberately, he looked for the best quality teak wood from Lampung and got the design from a craftsman from the Klender area. Every month, Ipang produces cupboards and resells them. For Ipang, this profession is a stage that cannot be separated from his success journey. Even though he cannot continue to be in this business and does not provide abundant profits, the success he has achieved now could not have been realized without going through these stages or failures.

Designer

As a graduate majoring in design, of course Ipang once worked as a designer. Apart from designing t-shirts, Ivan has also designed cassettes. During his time, Ivan had the opportunity to design company logos and cassette covers. One of his clients at that time was Ongky Alexander.

One of the things that differentiates his work as a designer in the past and today is making prototype settings. To make a prototype setting, Ipang said that he needed to go to a place where he could order fonts, colors, shapes and sizes. That's just the process for creating a layout. Another difference that is also felt is the reference source. When creating a design component, the references he uses are still obtained from newspapers or magazines, which he has to collect manually and make into a book. So he always carries the book everywhere, including during meetings with clients.

With the unlimited sources of reference that today's millennial generation has, from Google to Pinterest, Ipang considers that today's creative workers are lucky for the convenience they have. The references available, both national and international, seem endless.

They should also be able to produce better work because Ipang admits that their quality in terms of taste is also far ahead. Politician

Being involved in the creative industry does not stop Ipang from exploring. The political realm is one area that Ipang has also delved into. As a form of exploration, Ipang was registered as a pioneer and expert team in drafting the Creative Economy Law Draft (RUU).

It doesn't stop there, he is also known as an advisor and consultant to many political figures and institutions who have an important role in the process of formulating public policy in the country.

Modern Farmer

Ipang has a garden which he modified. For him, 50% of the garden is simply natural, or innate. Meanwhile, the remaining 50% is the psychological experience of the people who visit it based on their own references, knowledge and experience when looking at the garden. During the pandemic, Ipang cultivated the land he owned in Kopo Village, Cisarua, Bogor. Applying the aqua agriculture method, or efforts to optimize land with maximum commodities, Ipang is trying to cultivate lobsters.

Ipang's various professions have taught him valuable lessons about communication techniques with various people from various circles. Apart from that, through a series of professions, Ipang also realized that creativity is a mindset. It's like a belief we instill in ourselves; So if we think that we are not creative, then we have limited ourselves by cutting half the capacity in our minds to encourage us to think creatively.

Always accepting challenges, thinking differently, not just going with the flow and creating your own trends are the tips given by Ipang to be able to bridge creativity with income.
