Era Digitalisasi di Mata Teguh Wicaksono

The Era of Digitalization in the Eyes of Teguh Wicaksono

We may agree that change is something that cannot be separated from a person's life journey.

Resource Person Because this time, Teguh Wicaksono, admitted that he had changed the direction of his life several times. Starting from joining a band, to writing for various major media, starting from National Geographic, Jakarta Post and Twitter. Currently, Teguh holds the position of brand & editorial manager for Netflix. Apart from that, Teguh also built an independent company that specializes in archiving music from time to time in Indonesia, with the name Sounds From The Corner.

In the midst of the intersections and changes that Teguh went through, he realized that the era of digitalization was the background that sparked each of these changes. This time, we will discuss how the digitalization era has changed the way we consume information flows, especially for music media in Indonesia.

Attention Spend

When he was studying for his undergraduate degree at FIKOM UNPAD, Teguh said that he had attended a course in depth reporting, where he made a very comprehensive report. When he now looked back, he found that the provisions that had previously been implemented as a journalistic code of ethics were no longer relevant.

Currently, information will be more effective if it is reconstructed in terms of form and content so that it can be listened to by a limited audience. Not only the format, but the content of the information and the method of delivery also play an important role. Taking Twitter as an example, how can we curate information in an interesting way in just 280 characters?

Journalism Code of Ethics

In journalism, Teguh again reminds us about the code of ethics. In the journalism code of ethics, a rule is summarized where ideal information must not only be credible, but also factual. The loss of curation barriers for information since the start of the digital era risks giving rise to rumors or various fake news.

This misleading flow will be difficult to suppress and if we as audiences are not wise in choosing which information we should pay attention to and which we can ignore, this flow can be misleading. In conclusion, the code of ethics in journalism no longer has the ability to prevent the flow of digital information.

He said, "Young people are lazy about reading." Is it true?

Have you ever heard someone say that young people are lazy about reading? Responding to this argument, Teguh admitted that he did not agree. The era of digitalization has changed the form and packaging of information so that important and useful narratives cannot only be found in an extraordinarily thick book.

Now, equally important information can be turned into a podcast. Or videos uploaded via YouTube, for example. So, for Teguh, the statement 'young people are lazy to read' is subjective, because traditional reading styles can no longer be applied today.

However, Teguh believes that there are reasons that can be scientifically proven to be effective through conventional reading activities, which cannot be compared with digital speed reading activities.

Absent Sensation

We can see the transformation of a song through Vynil to streaming music services. Even though the song being played is the same, Teguh agrees that the sensation cannot be replaced. There is a sensation that is absent when we listen to a song that we originally listened to via Vynil on a streaming music service.

In the end, the changes that occur may have an influence on a person's lifestyle or habits, but they will not affect that person's preferences in actualizing their tastes.

In contrast to Teguh's reasons for building Sounds Of Corner as an archive of Indonesian musical works of art, Teguh wants the songs he considers to be heirlooms to continue to be enjoyed and not be destroyed by time. This is a firm commitment that he tries to hold tightly to the world of music.

For Teguh, one of the biggest challenges for a person when responding to change is confidence. Beliefs are formed by everything we are taught. So, at one point in Teguh's life, he decided to let go of everything that had been implanted in him.

The process of 'unlearning', as Teguh calls the moment of freeing himself from all previous dogmas, then led him to so many new gates of opportunity. However, what he is most grateful for from the unlearning process is that Teguh succeeded in finding what he wanted in life.

After knowing what he wanted, Teguh began to plan a route to his goal from the simplest things he could do, until he succeeded in achieving everything he aspired to today. When asked about the future, Teguh is also not sure if he will rely on everything he has built in Sounds Of Corner, however, he will continue to archive the best music curation in the country. So the achievement he can be proud of from this business is the increase in the number of music archives that he continues to preserve.
