Being the designer of Lisa Blackpink's clothes is one of Siska Kemala's greatest achievements. To be precise, in 2018, when Lisa visited Indonesia for a marketplace event, Siska was on the team that handled the K-Pop idol's clothes. This opportunity was a very valuable moment in Siska's life considering that she was a fan of the idol whose full name was Lalisa Manoban.
So who is Siska Kemala herself?
Siska Kemala is an illustrator currently based in Jakarta. In the world of graphics, he is better known by the nickname "minumtehtarik" who often displays various fan art illustrations in pastel colors. Apart from that, Siska is also involved in illustration projects for various quite hit books, such as "Actually I'm Not Fine" and "I'm Not Giving Up, I'm Just Tired," which are written by South Korean writer, Geul Bae Woo; “Epiphany” by Reza Darmawangsa; and “ Emotional Blackmail ” by Zhou Mu-Zi.
To become a reliable illustrator, Siska has a fairly strong artistic background. For three years, 2011 - 2014, he took the International Diploma program for Fashion/Apparel Design at the ESMOD fashion school. This is a leading fashion school in Indonesia which is oriented to the world's fashion city, Paris. Apart from that, to complement her skills, Siska also took a visual and multimedia communication certification from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore, in 2015.
After graduating from fashion school, Siska worked for various design companies. One of these companies is JKTCreative, a retail company that helps empower residents of flats in Jakarta. When she joined JKTCreative, Siska had the opportunity to be on the team that designed clothes for Lisa Blackpink. The clothing is in the form of a Svarnadipa batik jacket which was made in collaboration with the women from the flat.
Seeing the jacket she worked on worn directly by her idol is a matter of pride for Siska. If you remember again, making a design for an idol like Lisa is not an easy matter. He and his team had to find the Thai idol's favorite clothing style. It turns out that Lisa often chooses fashion that is playful, bubbly and a little sporty , so her team decided to design a cropped bomber jacket. According to him, this is the first time that the hobby he enjoys intersects with his daily work.
Even so, at the end of 2019 Siska decided to quit JKTCreative. He also began to actively live his days as a full-time freelance illustrator and designer. This is where his name became increasingly known to the public with his unique and fresh works.
In the process of creating, Siska takes inspiration from small things that she experiences every day. These inspirations include warmth with family, close relationships with pets, the process of maturation, food, and many more.
Meanwhile, in designing Siska usually uses Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. He also studied digital painting in the style of children's illustrations and cartoons. Then, in order to hone her storytelling skills , Siska also explored other styles or media, such as traditional media (watercolor, acrylic on canvas), semi-realist digital painting , and also comics.
Now Siska has a special website that displays her work, commissions, and several online shops. This also includes online stores abroad, such as in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand.
That's a brief profile of Siska Kemala, a young illustrator whose work has been recognized by the public and is an international figure. There are many things that can be learned from him, such as perseverance and dissatisfaction with continuing to hone your skills. That way, the resulting illustrations will become more mature and attract the interest of the public.
